hi alaine - i have never chosen to listen to maria callas before. i'm not an opera appreciator. however, to be really honest, with it playing in the background as i wandered around i was able to give it my attention and i'll say with all due respect that she has an amazing voice!!! amazing!!! i can't imagine what it would be like to have that kind of control. thanks. steven
Hello Steven, her control is/was amazing, her voice a beautiful instrument. I'm not a devotee of opera either but some songs, when well sung, I could listen to over and over. Like the flower duet from Lakme; one of our favourites. Thanks for listening. I couldn't get any of Dot's songs to happen; I had that buffering problem. Perhaps the weather here at the moment, stormy.
Her voice a beautiful instrument indeed! Such control...very amazing! The YouTube version of this was also well put together with some great photos. Thanks for sharing...I love music fresh to my ears. Although I have heard Callas before...this was delightful!!
Hi Maggie, thanks, I'm glad I put it up although not expecting to please everyone! I have it playing now; it's incredible what she does with her voice.
Hello Friko, music is a great stress reliever; I was worn out from gardening the other day (overdid it), came in, poured a glass of water, sat down and listened to several versions of the duet from Pearl Fishers (on YT). That's all it took and I was my old self!
But, getting back to your husband playing for the Royal Opera; how wonderful! What instrument does he play?

Hi Alaine,
I'm not a slavish devotee of Callas but when she's good, she's great and that was great!

Derrick, I agree, not everyone's cup of tea. She has a guttural sound occasionally but this song is pure!!

I am not much of a fan of Opera but do like classical music as a background sound. Some of it is really nice.
Thanks for your visit and comment on Pick a Peck of Pixels and the post "Powerful Stuff" and your comment.
Hi alaine,
would you believe that my husband who was at the Royal Opera Covent Garden for many years actually played for Callas in the flesh?
Thank you for reminding me, I haven't listened to her for a long time. Opera is a great love.
