The Melbourne Cup (thoroughbred horse race) has been a major event in Victoria since 1861. The winner of yesterday's main race for the Cup was Dunaden, a French horse.
Fashions on the Field has been an event open to anybody since 1962 and has been sponsored by one of our large department stores, Myer, for many years.
The Judges
Darling Audrey; style, class personified!
Love this hat; beautiful girl, really sells it!
Gorgeous!
And the winner was
a girl from Geelong in Victoria,
currently living in Paris -
she certainly brought
some French chic
to the contest.

I loved that she made the outfit herself...perhaps the hemline reflects the puffy top to the sleeve.
My favourite hat is the turban style - the girl applying lippy.
Delwyn...I love that hat too! I hadn't picked up on the fact that she had made the outfit herself.
J'aime beaucoup la première image....
Bonne journée,
Pierre
Oh how fun! Some gorgeous photos there! I love the brunette spinning in gold the best! :) Your horse race must be similar to our Kentucky Derby. Not sure we have a fashion show with it though!
Pierre...yes, that black hat is stunning too!
Bonne journée à vous aussi!
Betsy...Cup Day is huge for the ladies...they have big marquees by most of the hair and cosmetic people where one can go and freshen up throughout the day...but, you know, I have never been to a Cup!!
What a fun post! I love all the fashions, and the HATS!!!
Love your beautiful blog. Nice to get to see other parts of the world.
Hugs,
Patti
Lovely to look at! I liked No.744, the purple and orange!
What? A judged event? I thought all Australian women looked this wonderful 24/7.
Ivy and Elephants....Patti, thankyou for visiting!
Wanda...I loved that entry too...the girl is so pert and the orange and purple together really work, don't they!
Whether it's the Melbourne Cup (such great color!)or the Prix de Diane at Chantilly, I love hats! These are times to let loose, more than to seek chic!
Dear Alaine,
This is the most beautiful, unique and interesting fashion post I've seen!
Wonderful images, your comments with sense of humour, just simply good!
Well done my Dear!
Greetings,
karin
p.s. Hope that you both, you and your husband, are well.
gésbi...believe me, the majority "let loose" at The Melbourne Cup!
LaPouyette...Karin, thankyou, thankyou and, yes, we're both coming out the other side of the 5-way bypass very well with good reports all around and now I'm even getting a little help with the mowing! We're a lot happier!
