One White Tree....

Tall ships and tall kings
Three times three.
What brought they from the foundered land
Over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
And one white tree.

J.R.R. Tolkien

Steven...I must admit that I missed out on Tolkien; I must remedy that. My daughter read and enjoyed The Hobbit in her early teens.

Hello Lainie:
What an absolutely magnificent image. We assume, on account of the wonderful bark of the trunk, that it is a Plane tree. But we may be wrong.

Jane and Lance...hello! No, it is a Eucalypt, a grand Aussie gum tree! I captured it whilst out walking when we were away at Lake Fyans in April...I knew some would love it!

Wanda...I love their majesty and also wonder what they've seen over the years!

Oh my! I love trees, could not live without!
This 'white tree' together with Tolkien's poem is just simply beautiful.
Thank you Alaine for showing it to us!
Greetings from the Périgord,

Karin...I have many here in skeletal form at the moment, some already budding and it's only 3 days in to Winter. They're beautiful with or without leaves!

What a lovely tree. Whenever I see a great tree I take its pictures – now I have a folder full of trees. Maybe I’ll do a post on them someday, but then it might even be longer than the posts I publish now….

Vagabonde...thanks for visiting! I don't know if you received my email...you did say you were interested in our visit to Rimini; I did a post and let you know it was up. Our friends who live there were so happy with it. Here's the link - http://coccinella-ladybug.blogspot.com/2011/03/rimini-italy-miami-of-europe.html

A beautiful gum tree and an evocative verse. As a lover of trees and of Tolkien, I couldn't think of a better short post than this combination! Thank you.

(I published a bit about a white tree recently but it was a creepy one - I called it 'the living dead'. Yours is far more fair and graceful.)
