A Noiseless Patient Spider

A noiseless patient spider,
I mark’d where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark’d how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.

And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing,
seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form’d, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul.

Walt Whitman

Hello Susan, Lovely to have you visit. I'm sitting here about to switch off for the night.

DMJ took that pic this morning and came in saying, 'Here's a blog for you'. Isn't he sweet! It's a nice pic and looked even better when we put it on zoom. It's funny it happened that way, as I found the poem before I had the pic and DMJ didn't know it.....ESP?

Yes, both beautiful. You and your husband were obviously in sync!

alaine - this is stunning!!! i can't believe that picture - that's so good and then a walt whitman poem that i've not seen before and it says it all so well - threads that reach out - we're always searching for connection. thanks for this - what a wake up!! (it's 8 a.m. as i write!) steven

What synchronicity. You and DMJ clearly work well in tandem. Fabulous shot - and paired with that poem. I love the prompt by dear old Walt to think of where we cast our gossamer threads - what bridges we make, what anchors we attach to . . .

Thank you so much Alaine - that sets a lovely tone to my day - and gives me something important to ponder.

Hi Derrick, that does happen now and then, thinking alike, perhaps because we've been together 31 years!

Hello Steven, Vicki & Bonnie, So glad you liked it; to me it spoke volumes. I really enjoy paraphrasing.
