CLOUDY

View from "Sedgemere" April 2006

Sonnet #33 - Shakespeare
Full many a glorious morning have I seen
Flatter the mountain-tops with sovereign eye,
Kissing with golden face the meadows green,
Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy;
Anon permit the basest clouds to ride
With ugly rack on his celestial face,
And from the forlorn world his visage hide,
Stealing unseen to west with this disgrace;
Even so my sun one early morn did shine
With all triumphant splendor on my brow;
But out, alack! he was but one hour mine;
The region cloud hath mask'd him from me now.
Yet him for this my love no whit disdaineth;
Suns of the world may stain when heaven's sun staineth.

A pity about the pole; I should have airbrushed that out!

Alaine, do not fret. The pole cannot compete with the landscape...it merely places it in perspective.
Thank you for stopping by my site. I was so glad to see you there!
You may have noticed, I have been known to drink in Shakespeare for breakfast! Thank you for the sonnet and the thoughts of Montaigne.

That little thought of Montaigne is so apt, particularly to my age group!

Thanks for visiting!

Hi Alaine

You have a beautiful photo even with the cloudy sky the shadows show a sun in the west - how lovely - it remind me of NZ my home country.

Your quote caught my eye too and I mused on my undiminished interests and need to learn...

The pole reminds us that we are connected...

Happy Days

Hello, Alaine! Thanks so much for visiting me--so great to meet you & your beautiful blog! :o) Your photo is fantastic--pole and all. All can be art... And the photo pairs well with the sonnet. Happy Day!

Hello Alaine,

Thanks very much for visiting and following. I've enjoyed my visit downunder. Such beautiful scenery.

I have just finished reading Pillars of the Earth myself and am now on World Without End. Great stories. I have a few posts about cathedrals and our local abbeys, if you are interested.

Oooh, three tries and my comment box finally appears!

Hello Delwyn & Tracy, Thankyou for visiting; I've been up 20 minutes and will be peeping at my bloggy friends pages very soon. Love it, it's like sitting down with a coffee and a good mag.

Hello Derrick, glad you dropped in. Amazing that you've just finished 'Pillars' and I'll ask at the library for WWE. I also have 'A Dangerous Fortune', which I think I've also read before but I like Follett's books.

I'll certainly go back to yours and read about the cathedrals and abbeys; I am indeed interested, it is so fascinating.
