The forgotten Dickens collection...

We were doing a bit of a tidy-up in our shed just before Christmas. Hubby came across a large box and said, "You don't want to keep these old encyclopedias do you?", box poised over the trailer. Luckily I took a look and my eyes boggled! Fifteen books by Charles Dickens containing 32 of his 63 stories and three volumes of Tolstoy's "War and Peace"; all un-opened and only one slightly nibbled by a mouse.

Not the complete works, as at first thought but nevertheless, a little treasure trove.

Steven...I'm looking forward to getting into them; I remember reading some stories when a girl but not since.

BTW, my sidebar says your next post is "an icy grace" but the page can't be found when I click on it...I'll keep trying!

Christmas was lovely; enjoy your holidays!

Treasures! You've been given a gift. They look lovely with the feather and clock. Hope you're enjoying lovely weather. It's nice for me to see the green from your window.

Gwen...that's what I thought! What a lovely gift!

MG...Karen, yes, a great gift. And what is coincidental is that we were discussing your books just prior to me finding them and one of them was the Edwin Drood story, coupled with American Notes! I went to look up Drood after that and learnt that Dickens had been working all day on that story when he suffered another major stroke and died, leaving the story unfinished.

It is still green here but it is getting hotter and soon everything will be golden.

That little clock belonged to M's Mum and the little damaged bit on the front was caused by Shrapnel in WW2 in Plymouth. It still goes and keeps quite good time!

A mouse with taste!

I always check through old boxes full of unknowns... especially my own!

What a find!

Best wishes for the New Year.

Alaine--I love your header! How great! And how special to find those books in the box. Lucky it didn't get tossed first. What a great story about the clock.
