Scruff #2, second from left
In less than two months, after we lost Scruff #1 (click to read the story), we have another 'Scruff'' suffering from the same disease, Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease. It most likely caught PBFD from the first Scruff, as it's highly contagious.
Scruff knows where to come for TLC and comes in on his/her own.

Here we go again...
waiting for this gentle bird to show up
and knowing that one morning it won't

What a beautiful picture. I was sorry to read the sad text. Apparently these birds do know where to come for loving care!
Oh Dear! Does this mean that the other four birds in the picture and many others are running the same risk, Alaine?
alaine i remember the first scruff. clearly the birds have heard about you and your kind caring ways! steven
I'm so sorry, Alaine. The pictures are beautiful, and I'm sure you will treasure them. Wishing you and Scruff all the best :)
Ahh, they are such beautiful birds. I love the way they are all sitting politely at their places, as if awaiting an invitation to dinner. Sad about the horrible disease, poor thing.
I had just started visiting you, Alaine, when Scruff #1 came visiting too!
They are so beautiful...just sitting there so comfortably. I'm glad they have you to care for them. Is there anything that can be done for Scruff?

Thank you all...
Derrick...I imagine it's been an ongoing thing and that it is passed on with preening. Most of the birds that call in are beautifully healthy.
MG...Karen, scientists are continually working on a cure; they thought they had it once but, unfortunately, it didn't work well.
How sad for such beautiful birds to become ill. Hopefully there will be a recovery.
I think it is so incredible to have these wonderful birds right in your own yard. I can't even imagine that. Nothing here but Robins, Blue Jays, and a few Finches. It would be so great to wake up and see these kinds of birds in my yard.
Teri...hi. It is wonderful; sometimes we sit and watch their antics and laugh. Hubby took a great picture yesterday of them sitting, waiting and two of them were asleep!
Paul...it is so sad. My husband gets too close to them and is in the dumps if they don't show up. We had one called "Grand-dad" who didn't show and a couple of months later, we found him in the guttering of the house...and we collect water from the roof to the tanks! Luckily we have a large filter system for drinking water.
