I'd never heard of QVC until yesterday. They had a poll to
name the most beautiful woman of the past century.
Audrey won, hands down; that I won't argue with.
British pop singer, Cheryl Cole, second ..
.. and Marilyn Monroe, third.
Well, each to their own but I would have pipped
Elizabeth Taylor for a place.
Flattering for Cheryl Cole, at the least;
she's the only one alive to care!

Audrey was very beautiful indeed and her life story is very intriquing too. It is a hot July day here in Hoosierland (Indiana).
Betsy of "My Five Men" is my beautiful niece! Have a wonderful
day!
:) The Bach
Alaine--I think my favorite out of that group would have to be Marilyn. I just think she was so beautiful. Audrey was too but in a different sort of way. Never heard of the "living" one, sorry! How's winter? I wouldn't mind zipping off there for a short "cool" break. The heat and I don't get along that much anymore.
The Bach....welcome! I've seen your name around but didn't know you were Betsy's uncle! Betsy would have to be a contender, in my book; she is beautiful in all ways.
It is freezing here; hope you're enjoying a warm, balmy night!
Teri...I just loved Audrey, she was such a lady, as well as being beauty blessed. I'd heard the name, Cheryl Cole but didn't know what she looked like.
I know what you mean about heat; I love winter. Used to love summer decades ago when I had a pool in the back yard to jump into! Now I'm glad when it's over!
I do think Audrey Hepburn is a beauty but I think Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren need to be in that list somewhere near the top.
Ah, Audrey!
I loved Audrey, so my vote goes to her, too. Although all the others were very good runners-up.
Hi Alaine,
I should think Cheryl Cole would be astonished! The trouble with such polls is who actually votes. I dare say half of them have never heard of Liz Taylor! Audrey is a worthy winner.
I love the images you choose of these women, they show them at their best (though I don't really know the one that's alive!)
I agree about Elizabeth Taylor - did you see her on the cover of this months Vanity Fair?! It's been this long, and her beauty is still so amazing as to grace this cover.
You can see it here:

RNSane...Carmen...Oh, definitely both those two!
Marion...no, I hadn't seen the Vanity Fair mag but went to that link you suggested; thanks for that. I loved reading about Liz and Richard and what they were up to all those years ago!
Blow!! I've lost comments from Teri at Working the Earth and Bachelor and can't re-publish them - they're in my emails but I keep getting an error message. Apparently a lot of people are having the same problem.

We all agree on Audrey! And Derrick, I don't go much on polls either.
In love with beauty!! Garbo has a face that seems in a class by itself, and then Marilyn..and then the line forms and gets shuffled..Audrey, Lana Turner in "The Postman..."...Rita Hayworth...Vivien Leigh..definitely Grace Kelly!
Lyn...ah, Rita was gorgeous and one who I thought was a beauty (but not a 'stunner', as we say today) is Ingrid Bergman; she had a lovely soft, natural beauty.
Thank you, Blogger, I've got the comments from Teri and Bachelor back...and my replies!
Sophia Loren comes to my mind...beautiful inside and out.
Keep warm. I'm with you on winter...now my favorite season. Except for the snow of course.
Ooohh...all three ladies are gorgeous! That picture of Marilyn is especially nice...had not seen that one yet.
And I was so pleasantly surprised to see my name popping around in the comments. You are too sweet...that made my day. Thank you! xxoo
MG...Karen, Sophia is gorgeous and a great actress! We haven't seen snow yet but it's been freezing! Rugged up when I went out to garden; warm as toast inside!
Betsy...meant every word! I visited your blog today but was so choked up, I couldn't leave a comment...everyone had said it all; I admire you and your husband a great deal!
These lists are always so subjective, aren't they? I would have to agree about Audrey's winsome beauty and the fact that she was so beautiful inside just seals the deal. She is one of my favorite actresses.
I agree with you that Elizabeth Taylor should have been in the top 3. In her heyday, there was no one more beautiful. Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Maureen O'Hara...so many of those glamorous stars from the 40's, 50's and 60's...too many to name.
