So much said in so few words....

Alabaster

LIKE this alabaster box whose art
Is frail as a cassia-flower, is my heart,
Carven with delicate dreams and wrought
With many a subtle and exquisite thought.

Therein I treasure the spice and scent
Of rich and passionate memories blent
Like odours of cinnamon, sandal and clove,
Of song and sorrow and life and love.

Hi Alaine,

What a fabulous poem - and picture to go with it. And a gorgeous new header! Exquisite indeed!

Hello Derrick, thank you. Actually the header is an old one revived; I'm feeling very French at the moment, have traced my Great Grandfather back to the beautiful Loire Valley in France.

This is truly a lovely poem and the alabaster box is charming – is it yours? I also liked your post on the octopus carrying coconut shells – I had heard about it and it is truly startling. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Those are all my favorite colors in the beautiful box. The poem as beautiful as the box. Both treasures. Like your blog header...might you be an iris collector? We have a garden center here that has a field filled with many variety and colors. At the right time in the season we can go tag them, and when they are ready the garden center pulls them up dries them and ships them just waiting to be planted in our gardens. Siberian iris are my favorite. I have 2 maturing clumps in my gardens. Thanks for the visual treat! It's very white here.

Hello Vagabonde, thanks for visiting and no, it is not mine I'm afraid. I just looked for an Indian alabaster box to go with the poem.

I loved the story about the octopus too - what a clever little creepy-crawly!

Hello Maggie, I have a clump of Dutch Iris in my courtyard (a gift from a neighbour when we move in), where I can see it all day when it's flowering. I love the Fleur de Lis and it's supposed to be modelled on the Iris.

That's a great program you have at your garden centre!

Hi Lyn, thanks, I'll be looking for more of Sarojini's poetry. I bet NY is looking magic right now with the snow. If you can, please take a pic of Central Park and email me?! I so wish we'd taken a cab up to CP and then walked back down; it was such a short time we had there.
