WATER IT!

I don't know about you but I forget to drink water! It's not until the afternoon comes, along with what I call, 'brain fog', that I realise that I need my first big glass of H20 and it's not long before my head is clear again. After that I might drink another two glasses. But that's not enough! We all should drink 6-8 glasses a day to remain hydrated and have our system function as it should.

Some of you may have seen the following study result before but I think it's worth printing again. I'm going to put that lovely waterfall pic on my fridge, along with the MIND, EXERCISE, NUTRITION, DO IT!! motivational sign, in the hope that it will work in the reverse of the cake post I put up recently!

1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated (likely applies to half the world population).

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79% and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?

WOW! I need a glass of water! Or two or three! I had no idea on some of those points. Thanks, Alaine, for all the very important information. I really need to be more diligent about it.

Susan, I wish I knew some of these points years ago. We were always told to drink water but never got the explanation why!

Alaine: Yes, I am aware of those reasons for staying hydrated. Have you read "You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty!" by F. Batmanghelidj, M.D.? He explains many of the processes in the body that cannot happen in the absence of water. Wonderful post!!!

hi alaine - great advice that resonates as i reach the end of a teaching day with no water breaks, no washroom breaks and feeling foggy would barely begin to describe the sensation!!! thaks for this. have a peaceful day in australia. steven

Thanks, Maggie - I'm getting a bit foggy now (1:43pm), time for a glass!

Bonnie, no, I haven't read that book; I'll see if my library has it, thanks. I would find that extremely interesting.

Oh Steven, feeling like that and you have to pedal that bike home! Have a good drink before you start off! Take care.

I have learned to carry a bottle or a glass from room to room during the day and get my 8+ glasses, but at this age it has unwanted adverse effects too...

Happy Days

Delwyn, that's a good idea but I know what you mean!!! Why is that so?? This is the first year that I have felt my body drying up too! Must be the drought; blame the drought; grumble, grumble...

Hi Alaine,

I have always found it hard to drink water! I know it does one good but I can rarely muster the enthusiasm!

BTW, Hope you get to see all you wish during your Europe trip this time! Bus tours can be too regimented. We took one around Rome, just to get our bearings but it was raining and the windows kept misting!

These are astonishing statistics, Alaine! I'm in Norway, and the climate here is dry, so I feel thirsty often. This is good in a way though, I keep hydrated and it helps. I do try to about 6 glasses of water daily. And when out & about--always a water bottle, just in case. Thanks for the tips and great advice. Happy Day ((HUGS))

Derrick, we saw more walking around Rome but got caught in a fantastic storm and were drenched! Fun though.

Tracy, I know, it's a wake-up call for me. I'd never thought that the climate would be dry in Norway; interesting.
