MAYFLY SPINNERS

Mayfly Spinner
My husband's photography in 2004
with his old Fuji digital

These insects are only about 1cm long
and as graceful as a ballerina

DMJ ties flies to imitate them
for his flyfishing hobby.
We have more than 8,000 photos on file
and he is constantly adding to the log.

Female Black Spinner in her coat of armour

Male Brown-eyed Black Spinner
They're all filed with their species names.

Another little spinner from the Baetid family;
this one is only half the size of the others.

Have a happy weekend!
More mowing and gardening for me...

Hi Alaine

My youngest daughter was a gymnast and these little spinners remind me of her arcing through the bars...she has back problems now...I wonder why...

Your husband's shots are superb...

happy mowing and weeding...

Beautiful! 8,000 huh? That's a lot of insects! Maybe you need an exterminator! haha

I'll have to show these to my hubby...I think I told you he's interested in learning flyfishing.

We're having beautiful weather this weekend! The honeybees are gathering up the nectar from the Autumn Joy sedum.

Delwyn, I know what it is to have back problems! I'm aching all over from jumping on and off the ride-on and wheelbarrowing mulch around but there's still more to do. Hubby was off down the river again today looking for more bugs and getting used to his new Canon. I'll put some more bugs up down the track.

Susan, haha. Yes, point him in the direction of the site, it's written all over the bug shots. I've also got hubby blogging now!

We're having great weather too. I just opened the door to let the dog out and was hit by a warm blast (9pm).

I stepped out the back door this morning to take the washing out and the bees were thick on the Rosemary.

What delicate creatures with their gossamer wings. 8000 photos!! Wow! I do love the photo that constitutes your header. Stunning!

Have you posted the name of your husband's blog and I missed it?
You are both such great photographers I'd love to check out his blog too.

Hi Alaine,

Needs a lot of patience and a good lens to snap these! Intriguing creatures. Hope you managed a long soak after all the mowing!

hello alaine - i laughed when i saw delwyn's comment as my own girl was a gymnast for several years and is now a dancer and these mayfly poses reminded me of her work on beam!!! i have a friend who ties flies as a hobby and it is truly pure art - purposeful and beautiful all at once! have a lovely evening. steven

Hi Bonnie, yes, it would be tragic if we lost them and have them backed up on an external hard drive.

His blog is A Flytyer's Journey - http://kossiedun.blogspot.com and his website is mentioned there in Links.

Hi Derrick, patience he has a lot of. That's what I should have done, straight into the tub!

Hi Steven, it is an art form and DMJ is one of the world's best, I'm proud to say!

They are so sweet - little spinners. Great pictures of them.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. We feel the same way, believe me.

Feeling a little buggy after seeing this cool looking bug. I'm listening to the crickets tonight. Awesome photos.

Thanks for stopping by the garden.

Nancy, thanks for your visit and do come by again.

Hello Maggie, love the sound of crickets. We get them in the house too; don't know how they get in!

Hello Vicki, lovely to hear from you! He is very talented with his photography and little flies - obsessed would be a better word!

I think I recall reading that you were raised in Tasmania for a while; he goes over there for the great flyfishing at least twice a year.

Ruthie, a lovely thing to do together; a walk in the Scottish hills. Yes, it would be starting to get chilly there. We are into Spring but are still getting morning frosts now and then.

Lovely to hear from you!
