Deliverance...

"When I am attacked by gloomy thoughts, nothing helps me so much as running to my books.  They quickly absorb me and banish the clouds from my mind."

Michel de Montaigne (Les Essais)

  1. What a pretty vignette. Hope you're not feeling gloomy. The gorgeous view out your window would help cheer as well as books. Very pretty fall color.

  3. No I did not get the email but I’ll look at the link, thanks. I shall also copy the Montaigne’s quotation which I did not know. I feel just like him as books have been my friends for many years.

  4. Karena...thank you for visiting...I am feeling a little down as I face the inevitability of leaving this place; we'll be looking for something smaller to tend. It is a cheery view but the leaves are nearly all gone.

  5. Steven...it's comforting to know they're there to visit for a while.

  6. Lovely view! And I totally agree. I've never understood people who don't read? One need never be bored with a good book to read. Vanna

  7. Ah...I understand that feeling of having to leave. I had it to and then we sold. I thought that I was really going to miss the old place but I have adjusted very well. There are benefits here at the new place that the other place did have. You will find that too. We grow, we change. And eventually, we find something that suits us just right.

  9. Vanna...I have a friend who never reads books, only buys magazines and does the puzzles...each to their own!

  10. Teri...it's going to be hard but the place we're looking at has the annual Eisteddfod (singing, instrumental, the arts), so much history, beautiful parks, a lake, fishing for my husband, etc., etc. I think we'll be very happy there with more stimulation for me and less work to do!

  12. How could we survive without books!
I call them "my best friends". And I love Les Essays de Michel de Montaigne. The Chateau with 'his Tour', near St. Emilion, is only 45 minutes drive from where I live.

Lovely post again Alaine, merci! This image is saying everything!
    Greetings

  13. I didn't know you were moving...but surely the new place sounds like it has a lot going on...so I hope this will be a good change. My best to you.

  14. Karin...I went to have a look at the Chateau; how magnificent and the young Michel grew up there! You are so lucky to live amongst so much history!

You may have missed 'Ode to the Peony' on my sidebar; it is just below where you clicked to comment here.

  15. Renée...thank you. At those times my mind is too 'one-track' to create anything! A long walk helps.
