  1. There they are - all the prototypes for what we have today!
And we think we are so inventive!

  3. Hi Alaine,

I think I could use C5 or J6 while I'm standing around in the shop! Have a relaxing weekend.

  5. Haha, Derrick, the ideal workout; stand there and let the machine do the work!

  7. I say we bring these contraptions back...they look like they're working better than my workout machines!! All the folks are in great shape in these photos! Although K1 looks like it would throw my back out for sure.

  8. OMG I can't imagine using any one of those contraptions I can understand why they left their boots on and fully clothed anything could get caught in the works.I had no idea people had this equipment back then

  9. Lord have mercy, they look more like torture devices than exercise machines! Really? Did these exist? LMAO!!!

  10. Hi Barbara, found them ages ago on some vintage photo site. Thought they'd be fun one day!

  11. Maggie, no, thanks. Have recently thrown an exercise bike and a treadmill on the tip and there's a sliding gizmo in the shed that has to go! Have a ball in the back room that I just had to have but have done nothing with, so I just walk these days! We do enough lifting and bending doing the housework and gardening!!

  12. It’s true you could say LMAO (Laughing my a** off). I like J4 the best, it looks like a foot warmer?

  13. Hello Vagabonde, it does look like a footwarmer; he looks really relaxed.

  14. Good heavens, several of those positions look likely to cause serious, and possibly irreversible injury!

I realize I should probably cringe on behalf of the woman trying to work out (such as it was) in a corset, but somehow the man looks even more pathetic.

    They're very fun pictures!

  15. This was quite the educational post, Alaine... Had no idea they were doing Pilates-like moves with apparatus waaaay back when...amazing! :o)

  16. My Grandmother had the contraption in the top photo. She kept it in her bathroom. We used to take turns playing with it when I was a kid. She also had a leather and metal harness for her nose that she wore at night to keep her nose small and dainty. Alas, it didn't work, and then somehow the nose managed to migrate to my face. Too funny!
