PICTURE OF HEALTH

WOMEN who want to lose weight can have their cake - as long as they don't eat it, scientists believe.

A Dutch study found that showing weight-conscious women pictures of sweet treats strengthened their resolve to eat healthily.

The finding suggests glossy adverts designed to make sweets irresistible may actually have the opposite effect. It also means the secret to losing weight could be a simple as decorating your fridge door with pictures of forbidden tasty treats.

Researcher Floor Kroese, of Utrecht University, said feelings of guilt may help fight temptation.

  1. hi alaine - well that picture made me regret skipping past the tasty cake stand at the grocery shop which i just came from. i could eat them all - go out and bike for a few hours and lose it all! that's the key - eat it and use it!!! now my wife says "that's easy for you to say 'cause you have a high metabolism". fair call. i'd be interested to see the study. neat idea though alaine!!! steven

  2. HAHA Now, now, Bonnie!

Steven, fortunately I'm a 'savoury' person, not that I don't like cakes, it's just that I'm afraid of addiction! Taught myself as a teenager never to look in a cake shop window and don't to this day; just walk past, eyes ahead! :o))

  3. Hello Jayne, thanks for visiting. Oh, it's always tempting but I'll grab a bicky and dip always.

  4. I love cakes and cookies but I can't eat them every day...I have more of a salt tooth than a sweet tooth...
I wonder if this study applies to people like me too?!

  5. Hi Alaine

I do love pavlova and lamingtons and cakes...but don't feel too great afterwards so I can see that having them to view often enough may be like some negative reinforcement...

however I cannot and will not ever give up icecream...I have found a new caramel and mac nut one... yummmy with raspberries...

    Happy days

  6. Tulsa, yep, I'm a salt person too - Garlic Salt, love it on bickies with tomato and red onion and Sea Salt on my dinner. We'll have to put a pic of a salt mill on the fridge!

  7. Hello Delwyn, You, me and Tulsa must be sitting at our 'puters this afternoon (morning in Japan) while a lot of our friends sleep! I'm ironing as well; I'm feeling so guilty about the housework!

Icecream is our only sweet love but it's restricted to about every two months and then it is a real treat!

  12. A picture of anything sweet, especially chocolate, posted anywhere, would only hasten my steps to having a munch. Who are they kidding?

  15. Hello Tracy, I'm noshing in to corn thins, my aioli, tomato, red onion, topped with grated parmesan as I type - my lunch, yum, savoury! Oh, and a dash of garlic salt!

    Willow, a sweet pig, though!

T, HAHA, yes, every corner you turn have a cake greet you!

Lyn, yes, I really think a photo of myself in a bikini would work better!

  16. Hi Alaine,

Having a picture is one thing. Having the treats inside the fridge is another!!

  19. I'm pretty sure this picture just made me want to eat the computer screen! Who comes up with these theories anyway? Maybe I should print out that picture and paste it on my fridge and pantry and see if it works, but I have my doubts. lol
